Welcome to the White Ribbon Ireland Campaign page. White Ribbon is a campaign in over 60 countries worldwide which seeks to engage with men and boys on ending Violence against Women and Gender-Based Violence. White Ribbon Ireland is proud to be part of the global movement.

What is gender-based violence?

Gender Based Violence (GBV), is any kind of harm or abuse that happens to someone because of their gender. This means it can affect women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community and men and boys too.

Despite this, women and girls are disproportionately affected by Gender-Based Violence.

I am an individual and I want to take a step towards becoming an ally in gender-based violence prevention – what can I do?

  • You can take the White Ribbon pledge
  • You can order White Ribbon pins from us, wear it, and be able to explain what it stands for and why you think that it is important. This may seem simple, but it shows that you take a stand against gender-based violence and violence against women and girls. If you would like some more information to help you have these conversations check out our resources page here.
  • If you are part of any groups or community, you can organise a workshop from the White Ribbon team to talk about allyship and empowering change. Read more about our workshops below.

I am an educator/school staff looking for training

White Ribbon Post-Primary School Programme

  • The White Ribbon Post-Primary School Programme (WRSSP) is a comprehensive project targeting secondary school teachers, staff, and management.
  • The first iteration and launch of the WRSSP was for the academic year 2022-2023 and since we have partnered with the following schools: Temple Carrig, St. Oliver’s Community College, Bush Post Primary School, the King’s Hospital, Mount Temple Comprehensive School, St. Kevin’s Community College, Tallaght Community College and Killorglin Community College.
  • The WRSSP has three interconnected programme areas – E-learning Academy, Experiential training/Training of Trainers programme and Strategic partnerships.

Workshops for Teachers and School Staff*

  • We offer single or set of workshops that range from 1.5-2.5h in length. These workshops are designed to build on each other, however you can decide which is best suited for you and your group depending on your needs.
  • Topics the workshops cover:
    • Understanding gender-based violence and its impact
    • Masculinities and gender stereotypes
    • Bystander intervention
    • Allyship, and more
  • We’ve had the opportunity to work with groups including Dundalk Institute of Technology, Dunboyne College, UCD Belfield, Irish Rail, and Westport Family Resource Centre, among many others.

White Ribbon Ireland is proud to play a part in the Game Changer programme, a powerful new initiative using the influence of Gaelic Games to help prevent domestic, sexual and gender-based violence. In partnership with Ruhama and the GAA, and supported by the LGFA and Camogie Associations, Game Changer provides communities with the tools to challenge harmful attitudes and promote safety, respect, and equality.
